On Wednesday 4th September The Expressive Arts Faculty were delighted to welcome musicians from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra who were delivering a composing workshop with senior pupils studying Higher and Advanced Higher Music.
The pupils learned about various compositional techniques used by Scottish composer James MacMillan in his piece “Tryst”. Throughout the day the class worked hard together to compose their own piece of music which they performed at the end of the day. Members of the orchestra held an insightful question and answer session and shared their experiences of life working and touring in a professional orchestra.
This was an engaging workshop that encouraged everyone to be adventurous and creative. The techniques explored will stand the pupils in good stead as they start composing their own pieces as part of the Higher and Advanced higher course. We look forward to working with the SCO again in the future.
